Next time someone tells me to lighten up over a rape joke, I’m telling them this.

Okay, so I usually don’t get on board with stuff, but let me interrupt my generally humorous reblogging for a moment to say something. I am a college man. While I do not doubt that there was a study done to get these numbers, these numbers are absolutely not validated universally or even nationally. This was one study, done by one group, at one time in the past. I would absolutely hate to think that THAT many men of my age think this way. If this is true, then so be it, but I think this was inflated or taken out of context with the purpose of instilling fear or propagating more man-hate. I understand that some men are monsters. I understand that some men rape. But not every man you walk across is a god damned rapist. I’m tired of all of this ‘men are all pigs’, ‘men are all monsters’, ‘everyone’s a rapist’, ‘I can’t trust any man.’ Women. You can trust some men. You just need to find the right ones to be trusting. :/

it’s to make men realize how fucking serious rape is. IT’S TO MAKE YOU SENSITIVE TO AS WELL AS AWARE OF THE ISSUE.

but you got your defenses out right away to make sure we all understand that not all men are pigs? Jesus, we aren’t fucking stupid. Where in those statistics does it say “100% of men are pigs?”

I am so fucking sick of the BUT NOT ALL OF US ARE LIKE THAT derailing tactic that men keep using.

Because 1) Usually if you have to say that, and if you feel the need to take the defensive position, it means that usually yes, you ARE fucking like that

and 2) Instead of the “WHAT ABOUT THE NICE GUYS/WE AREN’T ALL RAPISTS/SICK OF MAN HATE” defense tactics, how about you just take note of the argument and choose not to be the monster?

So, dear “lollingaboot,”

You’re apparently tired of the “men are all pigs” complaint and have chosen a staggering statistic of rape as an apparently appropriate venue to proclaim as such. So listen because this is actually relevant to this discussion,
